An experimental instrument that recycles the sounds of our modern-day, noise saturated world. An opportunity to learn about Organ of Corti created by Liminal: David Prior and Frances Crow, and commissioned by PRS for music Foundation’s New Music Award 2011.

Liminal will discuss the ideas behind Organ of Corti and the implications that it has on our experience of listening, and our relationship to sound in our environment. Since August 2011, Organ of Corti has been located on the main lawn in the grounds of Poltimore House and you can visit it at your leisure.

The lecture will last approximately one hour in the warm surroundings of our new project centre, followed by afternoon tea (or coffee if you prefer) served with a choice of cake (included in the price).

Taking its name from the organ of hearing in the inner ear, Organ of Corti explores the wider implications of recent developments in our understanding of acoustics and the neuroscience of hearing (how we listen) on health, music and culture, including our attitudes to sound in architecture, planning and our environment.
